Like Olivia Cooke’s new look?

The 20-year-old actress, best known for playing Norman Bates’ pal Emma on A&E’s Bates Motel, has shaved her head for her next role—one of the title parts in the upcoming film Me & Earl & the Dying Girl, an adaptation of Jesse Andrews’ YA novel. (Think The Fault in Our Stars, but with less romance and more swearing.)

In the July issue of Vanity Fair, cover star Shailene Woodley headlines a portfolio of up-and-coming stars we like to call “The New Wave.” Photographed by Miguel Reveriego, these rising talents have a huge variety of major projects on the horizon, from new spins on classic fairy tales to high-profile sequels to some of the summer’s biggest potential blockbusters. And they come with just as much variety in their backgrounds; some, like Jaden and Willow Smith, are children of Hollywood royalty, while others, like Jack Reynor and Eve Hewson, have traveled from overseas to work with some of our biggest directors. No matter where these actors and actresses came from, we only see them going one place from here: Up. And up. And up.

Our 2014 Next Wave Lineup: Odeya Rush, Bella Thorne, Josh Wiggins, Dylan O’Brien, Dayo Okeniyi, Tye Sheridan, Jaden Smith, Willow Smith, Maika Monroe, Will Poulter, Olivia Cooke, Ben Schentzer, Lily James, Jack Kilmer, Eve Hewson, Britt Robertson, Zoey Deutch, Jack Reynor, Douglas Booth, Zoë Kravitz, Katie Chang, Liana Liberato, Sami Gayle.
